Quality features of FFP respiratory masks

FEATURES THAT MAKE A GOOD FFP RESPIRATORY MASK

Moldex develops and produces all FFP respiratory masks at its own sites in Europe, from the filter to the straps. This enables us to quickly transform new ideas and suggestions into well-functioning products. But what makes a good FFP mask? Here, we explain the 5 most important features of a good FFP respirator mask from our point of view.

1. CE Marking

In order for a respirator to carry the CE mark as well as the FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3 mark, it must meet the requirements of the European Standard (EN) 149:2001+A1:2009. Among other things, the filter performance and the tight fitting of the mask are tested. If all test criteria are met, the respirator can be certified according to the EU regulation (EU)2016/425.

CE checklist

Beware of counterfeits! These requirements should be met with an approved FFP mask:

The product bears the CE mark with the four-digit identification number of the certification body, the FFP protection level, the EN standard, the manufacturer’s name and the article number
A declaration of conformity by the manufacturer is available, in the packaging or online
The manufacturer can present an EU type examination certificate on request

2. RELIABLE SEALING FIT

If an FFP mask is officially allowed to bear the CE marking including the identification number of the inspection body, then it has passed the leakage test in accordance with EN standard 149. Since ideal conditions do not always prevail in everyday life, we have equipped all Moldex FFP respirator masks with product features that support a sealing fit at all times.

Mask adapts flexibly to the shape of the wearer’s face without the need for a metal nose band.

LOOP STRAP

A freely movable strap enables precision adjustment of the distribution of tension over the head and as a result supports an optimal sealing fit.

3. EASY TO USE

The best FFP mask does not protect properly when used incorrectly. We have designed all Moldex FFP respiratory masks so that their use is simple and self-explanatory. It is clearly visible where the top and bottom are. And because of the ActivForm^® 3D design, our FFP masks adapt to the shape of your face. This ensures a reliable seal without the need to adjust a metal nose piece before wearing and, while wearing it.

The two-point special strapping of the Smart Solo^® mask is just one example of the user-friendliness of Moldex respirators.

4. LOW BREATHING RESISTANCE

The European Standard (EN) 149 specifies an upper limit for the breathing resistance of FFP masks. However, 300 Pa for an unused FFP3 respirator, for example, is relatively high. This value can increase even more during wearing due to the accumulation of particles. All particle filters used by us offer long lasting low breathing resistance for easy breathing.

MADE IN GERMANY

We develop and produce all particle filters for our respirators ourselves. This enables us to guarantee consistently high quality.

AIRWAVE® PLEATED FILTER

The AirWave^® pleated filters installed in the Air series have a very large filter surface and thus offer significantly reduced breathing resistance.

EXHALATION VALVE

Moldex FFP masks are available with or without an exhalation valve. It conducts the moist exhaled air directly out of the mask and thus ensures a more pleasant climate.

5. HIGH WEARING COMFORT

The high wearing comfort of a respirator is only really appreciated when it is worn for more than just a few minutes. In addition to low breathing resistance, Moldex FFP masks have other comfort features to make wearing respiratory protection as comfortable as possible.
